CONNECT WITH CREATIVITY | MAKE LIFE BETTER
DEMENTIA CONNECTIONS
According to the Alzheimer’s Society, by 2025 there will be over a million people in the UK with dementia. Living with a loved one’s diagnosis can cause immense strain. There can be so much uncertainty. However, it is possible to live with the disease, and to continue enjoying life and the company of loved ones.
This course will show you how.
It is designed for the family and friends of anyone who's received a diagnosis.
"The conversation has been brilliant and supportive. Superbly delivered - felt very relaxed and I learnt a lot."
Abi, course participant, 2021
June's story
June* was one of the residents of the Care Home I worked at. She managed fairly independently and it was only when you spole with her that you'd realise something was amiss.
Joyce's dementia had affected the language centre in her brain. It meant that she rarely spoke more than the occasional 'yes' or 'no'.
She passed her days quietly and seemed fairly content, joining the other residents for meals and some activities.
That is, until she joined our regular poetry sessions. As a group, we would read familiar favourites from large-print copies, voices coming together and lifting the room. And June would join in. Sat next to me, I would guide her from line to line and she would read along with everyone else. Or read aloud. On her own.
The pleasure she got from taking part was immeasurable.
It's stories like June's that inspired this course.
It doesn't end when the course ends
